TOWSON, Md. - Justin Moore's 3-pointer at the buzzer bounced off the rim and Towson survived a furious Drexel comeback to defeat the Dragons, 70-67. Drexel (14-7, 7-1) had its seven game winning streak snapped and suffered its first CAA loss of the season. The Tigers (12-8, 5-2) remained unbeaten at home and won for the fifth time in their last six outings.
Moore led Drexel with 17 points and five assists. Amari Williams had his seventh double-double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Nendah Tarke had 18 for Towson, while Christian May scored 15 points and 10 rebounds,
Drexel trailed by as many as 15 points in the second half before making a valiant effort to knock off the Tigers on their home court. Drexel cut the deficit to three on two occasions late, but Towson responded on the next possession with points. The Dragons finally chipped the lead to just two when Yame Butler made a 3-point play with just 34 seconds to go to make it a 67-65 game. Drexel fouled Tomiwa Sulaiman and he made one of two free throws as Drexel was still within one possession. The Dragons got down the court in a hurry and Moore made it a one-point game on a lay-up with 15 seconds to go. The Dragons fouled after they failed to steal the inbounds pass and once again the Tigers only made one of two from the line. Drexel had the last possession, but Moore was unable to connect on the final shot.
Drexel is back in action on Saturday when North Carolina A&T visits the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
