PHILADELPHIA – Drexel used a balanced scoring attack on its way to a convincing 62-47 win against North Carolina A&T. The Dragons held the Aggies to just 19 points in the second half on their way to their ninth straight win at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons are now 8-1 in the CAA and 15-7 overall.
Drexel's defense came to play early and held the Aggies (6-15, 4-4) to just four field goals in their first 22 shots from the floor. The 47 points scored tied for the lowest amount for an opponent this season. Earlier this year, Drexel's defense held Fairfield to just 47 points. The Dragons used an early 10-0 run to take the lead and then held the Aggies without a field goal for a stretch of almost four and a half minutes as they took a 27-13 lead. N.C. A&T wouldn't get closer than 14 points in the second half as the Dragons were able to get a number of players minutes off the bench. No Drexel player played more than 21 minutes in the game.
Shane Blakeney led the Dragons with a career-high 12 points. He made his first three 3-point attempts and converted an and one for his other points. Justin Moore added eight points and three assists in just 17 minutes. Lucas Monroe finished with seven points and eight boards, while Garfield Turner had a game-high nine rebounds. The Dragons didn't have their best shooting day, making just 25 percent of their 3-pointers, but it was enough to get the victory and remain in first place in the CAA.
Kyle Duke led the Aggies with 14 points. North Carolina A&T played without leading scorer Landon Glasper who was out due to injury. Nikolaos Chitikoudis added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Aggies shot just 33 percent in the game and were 1-for-12 from the line.
The Dragons begin arguably the toughest part of their schedule on Thursday with three straight road league games. They visit Monmouth Thursday night before facing UNCW and the College of Charleston on the road.
