Moore scores 22 points to lead DU
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Drexel used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to break open a close game and the Dragons went on to a 77-55 win at William & Mary on Saturday. Justin Moore had 14 of his 22 points in the first half and Garfield Turner had a double-double off the bench as the Dragons stayed unbeaten at 3-0 in CAA play. The Dragons (10-6) snapped William & Mary's nine-game home winning streak.
The Dragons got off to another good start and led the entire first half. Drexel played well on both ends of the court and opened up a 15-point lead despite foul trouble. Four Dragons had two fouls in the half as the bench was forced to play more minutes than usual. The Tribe capitalized late, ending the first half with a 10-2 run to trim the deficit to 33-27. After making 12 of their first 20 shots, the Dragons closed the half by missing their last seven shots. Moore had a huge half, making all six of his field-goal attempts on his way to 14 points.
The second half started in similar fashion as the Dragons quickly extended the lead to 11 points just four minutes in. The Pride (6-9, 1-1) answered a few possessions later with a pair of 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, cutting it to 46-43 with 12:29 to go. That was as close as the Tribe would get. The Dragons shot 55 percent in the second half and pulled away for their third straight win at Kaplan Arena.
Moore had his second 20-plus point night in his last four outings and was 4-for-6 from long range. Luke House scored nine of his 11 points in the second half. Turner had his first double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Dragons dominated the glass, outrebounding the Tribe, 48-22. Drexel had three players with at least 10 boards. In addition to Turner, Lucas Monroe had a game-high 11 while Amari Williams added 10.
Trey Moss led William & Mary with 22 points. Matteus Case added 12 points and a team-best six rebounds. The Tribe shot 38 percent in the game and made eight 3-pointers. They committed just four turnovers in a losing cause.
The Dragons have two more road games before their next contest at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. They face North Carolina A&T on Thursday at 7 p.m.
