BALTIMORE, Md. – Five different Dragons checked in with a goal in Drexel's 5-0 route against the UMBC Retrievers on Tuesday night in Baltimore. It is the largest margin of victory since the team finished the 2023 regular season with a 6-0 mark against FDU.
Alessandro Capogna started between the posts for Drexel and made four saves. Gavin Carmichael also made a play while Capogna was out of net that kept UMBC from scoring a goal. It is the fourth clean sheet by a Drexel keeper this season.
Drexel scored its first goal of the game in the 26th minute of the game. Ethan Schaefer finished a play started by Dominick Bachstein and Omar Jallow. The goal is Schaefer's second of the season. The assist is Jallow's first of his career.
Stephen Appiah tallied Drexel's second goal in the 39th minute, finishing a play started by Giancarlo Vaccaro. The strike is also Appiah's first of the year and it was Vaccaro's second helper of the season.
The Dragons closed the first half of play by scoring in the 41st minute. Bachstein picked up his sixth goal of the season by finding the back of the net.
Drexel's scoring barrage continued in the second half, scoring two more goals. Bachstein earned his fourth point of the night, assisting on a Patrick Short goal.
The fifth Dragon to check into the match was Carmichael. On a Dragons corner, Colin Davis received the ball after it bounced around and played it into the center for Carmichael. The freshman powered the ball past the keeper to put Drexel up by five.
The Dragons return to action on Saturday, October 5 welcoming the #22 Hofstra Pride to Vidas Field. Action from Philadelphia is set for 1 p.m.
