Dragons Edged by Temple, 52-43

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team fell to the Temple Owls, 52-43, on Saturday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. Deja Evans turned in a 18-point performance and recorded 11 rebounds for her third double-double of her career.
BY THE NUMBERS
Deja Evans came one block shy of a triple-double. The sophomore scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked a career-high nine shots. Her nine blocks tied the program single-game record, which was set by Joyce Moffett against Lafayette on Feb. 17, 1989
Drexel's defense shined again, holding Temple to 31 percent from the floor and just 25 percent from deep. The Dragons also forced 20 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons began the game with a 9-2 run to bring the game into the first media timeout of the game. The Owls struggled to find the bottom of the basket in the first 10 minutes of play. Temple shot 3-for-19 and was outrebounded by the Dragons 13-9. After the first quarter Drexel led Temple, 18-9.
The Owls trimmed the lead to five in the second quarter. TU outscored Drexel 13-9, but still struggled to shoot. Temple shot 5-for-18, while Drexel shot 4-for-17. Evans paced the Dragons with four points and 12 total for the half. The sophomore also had tallied five rebounds, three blocks and four steals.
Temple took its first lead with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. It was the team's first lead since scoring the first point of the game. The Dragons tied the game at 35-35 with a 3-pointer from Grace O'Neill with 23 seconds remaining.
The Dragons were held in check in the fourth quarter, going 4-for-16 from the floor. Temple scored 17 points to secure the nine-point victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Dragons close November with a trip to West Pennsylvania. The Dragons travel to State College to face the Penn State Nittany Lions. It is the eighth time the two teams play each other. The Dragons won the last meeting in the DAC on December 18, 2022, 86-82, in overtime. The last time the two teams met in Happy Valley, Penn State was victorious, 84-70.
