MaGee and Butler Lead Dragons Past Chicago State, 83-71

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kobe MaGee scored 23 points and Yame Butler added 20 as Drexel defeated Chicago State, 83-71, in the third place game at the Sunshine Slam. With the victory the Dragons head to Thanksgiving break with a 5-3 record.
The Dragons held the lead the entire second half and Chicago State couldn't get the margin under nine points over the final 11 minutes of the game. MaGee had 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half and the junior came within one rebound of a double-double. Butler was 6-for-10 from the floor and finished 8-for-11 from the line. His 20 points were a season-high. Cole Hargrove was also in double figures, finishing with 10 points in just 22 minutes of action. Drexel scored 48 points in the second half and made 62 percent of its shots during that time, but Chicago State hung around. The Cougars capitalized on Drexel miscues as the Dragons turned the ball over 15 times in the game. Those turnovers led to 22 points. Troy McKoy, Jr., who came into the game with just three 3-pointers and averaging five points per game, scored all 19 of his points in the second half and made four treys for the Cougars (0-8). The Cougars, who came into the game making just six 3-pointers a game, were 12-for-28 from behind the arc.
Drexel used an 11-1 run to take the lead in the first half and went to the locker room ahead, 35-28. The Dragons' defense held the Cougars without a field goal for a span of 6:10 during that stretch.
The Dragons are off until December 2, when they host Bryant in the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Game time will be at 7 p.m. Later in the week, Drexel will face Penn at the Wells Fargo Center in the Big 5 Classic.
