PHILADELPHIA - Horace Simmons, Jr. made a sensational Drexel debut, scoring 24 points on eight 3-pointers as the Dragons opened the year with a 95-43 win against Georgian Court. Simmons was 8-for-9 from long range and led four Dragons in double figures.
Drexel was in control from the opening tip. The Dragons scored the first 16 points of the game, held the Lions without a point for the first six minutes and never trailed in the game. The Dragons were on fire from deep in the first half, making nine of their 12 3-point attempts as they opened up a 56-19 lead at intermission.
Simmons had all six of Drexel's second-half 3-pointers. The La Salle High School graduate, who redshirted last season, also had a pair of blocked shots. Kobe MaGee scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half and had four 3-pointers. Yame Butler chipped in with 13 points, while junior Victor Panov added 10 points.
The Dragons had contributions from everyone on opening night. Junior Cole Hargrove had nine points and eight rebounds.
