Men's Squash Wins Holley Cup with 6-3 Win Over Virginia

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's squash team took down the No. 9 Virginia Cavaliers, 6-3 to capture the Holley Cup on Sunday, for the first time in program history. With the win, the Dragons improved to 8-5 while the Cavaliers fell to 9-6.
Haris Qasim got things rolling for the Dragons, defeating Myles McIntyre in a sweep from the three spot, 11-9, 11-5, 12-10. Following Qasim was José López from the three spot who took down Dylan Moran, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6. Afterward, Fritiof Jacobsson secured the victory against Francis Hajek from the five spot with an 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-5 score.
Next for the Dragons was Youssef Bastawy who defeated John Paul Tew from the two spot with an 13-11, 12-10, 11-8 sweep. Guido Lindner knocked out Petr Nohel, 14-12, 11-3, 5-11, 11-6 from the six spot. Lastly, Yuri Pelbart went the distance in the four spot against Arhan Chandra, securing the victory with a 6-11, 4-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-6 score.
Up next, the Dragons will face the Harvard Crimson on Saturday, Feb. 17. Action is set to start from the Klein & Specter Squash Center at 10:00 a.m.
