Dragons Victorious on Play4Kay and Survivor Salute Day Against UNCW, 63-39

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the UNCW Seahawks on Sunday afternoon, 63-39, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
BY THE NUMBERS
Brooke Mullin scored a game-high 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists. The graduate student succeeded from long range, sinking four of five tries.
Amaris Baker followed Mullin in the scoring column on 7-for-15 shooting for 14 points and grabbed six boards. Erin Sweeney tied a career-high with eight points.
Drexel's defense was in top form, holding the Seahawks to just 15-for-51 from the field and 0-for-8 from deep. The Dragons also forced 19 turnovers in the game and only coughed up the ball nine times on the other end of the court.
It is the fifth time this season that the Dragons have held a team to less than 40 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel scored 11 points in the first quarter to take a five-point lead over UNCW. Mullin scored five points and helped Drexel hold the Seahawks to 2-for-12 shooting. UNCW also turned the ball over six times.
The Dragons extended their lead to 14 points after scoring 15 points and held the Seahawks to six points once more. The Dragons forced eight more turnovers to push UNCW's total to 14.
The Seahawks increased their production in the third frame, scoring 12 points. The 12-point quarter did not do much to the Drexel lead as the Dragons scored 20 points, their most productive quarter as well. Mullin added eight points to her line.
UNCW continued their productive play by scoring 15 in the fourth. However, Drexel's offense did not slow down. Behind Baker, who scored six points, Drexel found its way to the basked seven times to put 17 points on the board.

The Dragons are set to complete their regular season home games next weekend, starting with Stony Brook on Friday, March 1. The Dragons and Seawolves will tip at 6 p.m. Drexel then welcomes CAA newcomer the Campbell Camels to the DAC for the first time ever on March 3 at 2 p.m.
