Dragons Fall to Stony Brook, 60-58

PHILADELPHIA – Amaris Baker tied a career-high 21 points as the Drexel women's basketball team fell short to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 60-58 on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
BY THE NUMBERS
Baker finished the game, shooting 10-for-22, with five rebounds and three assists. The junior also contributed a full 40-minute performance for the second time this season.
Jasmine Valentine also tied a career-high in points with 11. The senior pulled in four boards and finished with a pair of steals.
The Dragons held the lead over the top team in the CAA for 32:45, leading by as much as 19 halfway through the third quarter. The Dragons held Stony Brook to just 7-for-21 in the first half and forced a season-high 24 turnovers for the Seawolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel jumped out to an early 17-10 lead after the first quarter. Baker led the Dragons with eight points after shooting 4-for-6. The Dragons caused nine turnovers and were able to score nine points off those turnovers.
The Dragons extended their lead to 10 at the end of the first half, holding SBU to nine points. Grace O'Neill and Erin Sweeney each hit a 3-pointer to help Drexel take a double-digit lead to the locker room. The Seawolves turned the ball over another 10 times in the second half.
The Seawolves scored 18 points in the third quarter to cut the Drexel lead in half. Baker continued her production, scoring 11 points, to help Drexel piece together a 13-point quarter. Victoria Keenan helped Stony Brook claw back into the game with an eight-point quarter, including two 3-pointers.
In the fourth, Stony Brook took the lead with 4:50 left in the quarter. The one-point advantage was the first time the Seawolves had a lead since the first quarter. The lead shifted four more times before Stony Brook made a pair of free throws to take a one-point lead. The visitors extended the lead to two with another free throw with seven seconds left.
