Men's Squash Competes in Day One of Individual Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's squash team opened play at the CSA National Collegiate Individual Championships on Friday.

Fritiof Jacobsson got things started in the first round of Molloy North, defeating Mero Elmarassy of MIT in the first round, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5. Jacobsson would then fall to AbdelRahman Lasheen of Rochester, 6-11, 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 in the second round,

In Molloy South, Yuri Pelbart started off strong in the first round against Antonio Mendes of Western, winning 11-4, 11-5, 11-7. In round two, Pelbart would again advance, this time defeating Abdelrahman Dweek of Penn, 11-9, 13-11, 11-3. Pelbart will compete in the semifinals on Saturday against Abdelrahman Nassar of Trinity at 11:40 a.m.

In Molloy West, Youssef Bastawy took down William Rice of Hamilton by a score of 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 to advance to round two. In the quarterfinals, he was again victorious, this time against Petr Nohel of Virginia, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8 to move on to the semifinals. He will face off against Lachlan Sutton in the semifinals on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Molloly East, Guido Lindner was taken down by Neel Joshi of Harvard in the first round, going the distance 10-12, 11-1, 3-11, 11-7, 11-6.

In the Pool Trophy tournament, Nico Serna was downed by Veer Chotrani, falling short 11-6, 15-13, 11-6. Serna will next compete in the consolation bracket against Thomas Rosini of Princeton at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday morning.
