Men’s Rowing Takes Home Third Straight Bergen Cup on Senior Day

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's rowing team took home its third consecutive Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill River as the Dragons celebrated Senior Day.
Starting the day, DU honored seniors Jack Anderson, Richmond Coney, Josh Diggons, Alex Dragovits, Joe Glenn, Malcolm Grauley, Jack Hutchison, Nikola Loncar, Damian Lis, Vuk Mladenovic, Nick Perks, James Schmidt, Matt Sherman, Roman Smigiel, Sam Valigorsky, Lake Watson and Daniel Yurcisin for their contributions to the program.
Leading the way for Drexel was the Varsity 8 boat, in shell Lois Krall III, as Chloe Minicucci (Coxswain) Josh Diggons (Stroke), Nikola Loncar, Jack Anderson, Damian Lis, James Schmidt, Andrew Manns, John Little and Andrei Malis (Bow) took home gold. The team won with a time of 5:52.0, three seconds over its Philadelphia rivals.
The Third Varsity 8+ A team also finished atop the podium. The team of Matt Sherman (Coxswain), Zach Key (Stroke), Daniel Yurcisin, Matthew Kennedy, Nick Foley, Richmond Coney, Sam Valigorsky, Jack Hutchison and Jono Andersson in shell Sandra Lee Sheller II won in commanding fashion. The team crossed the line with a time of 6:12.0, 13 seconds over Saint Joseph's. The Drexel 3V8+ B team finished in fourth with a time of 6:31.0.
"Today was a good show of speed from the whole team," said Drexel men's rowing head coach Matt Weaver. "We know we still have a lot of work to do in all boats, but we continue to feel good about the momentum we have heading into Championship season."
