PHILADELPHIA - Drexel women's soccer head coach Ray Goon will be inducted into the South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame, Class of 2024 on May 19th.
The Willingboro, N.J. native was a four-year starter at Rutgers University, and captained the team during his senior campaign in 1984. During the 1983 season, Goon helped lead the Scarlet Knights to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the NCAA tournament. He was an all-state honoree as a senior and received the Alfred Sasser Award, rewarded to a member of the team who excels in leadership, initiative, team spirit and loyalty.
Before going to Rutgers, Goon went to Willingboro High School in South Jersey. There, he was selected to the All-State, All-South Jersey and All-County teams. Goon also won two cups in the South Jersey Men's League for various teams.
Goon began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach for the Rutgers women's soccer team in 1990 and continued until 1994 when he took the head position for the Philadelphia University program. After two successful seasons with the Rams, posting a 28-9-2 record, Goon helped Drexel restart its women's soccer varsity program in 1997, quickly turning it into a contender in the America East conference. Goon is a three-time CAA Coach of the Year, leading the team to the CAA Championship game in 2016 and to the semifinals in 2017 and 2023.
Goon will be honored at the Ron Jaworski's Valleybrook Country Club at 5 p.m.
