PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel Athletics Department hosted "Life After the Game-Athlete Transition and Support" at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on May 8 . The networking event brought back more than 25 alumni and more than 100 student-athletes attended.
The inaugural gathering of Drexel athletes both past and present allowed current athletes to hear from alumni who went through similar things as they have. It provided guidance on not only how to navigate their transitions after Drexel but also how to juggle student-athlete identity and the rigor of school and co-op. The event began with a reception in the President's Suite at the DAC, which allowed coaches and staff to meet and talk with Drexel alumni. Director of Athletics Maisha Kelly opened the event by welcoming the alumni. SAAC President Lake Watson, who is a member of Drexel rowing, led a panel-style discussion and introduced Paige Prop '19 (rowing), Noel Heaton '23 (squash) and Drew O'Neill '92 (golf). After the panel portion, students moved to speed networking with the alumni, which consisted of three 10-minute rotations at each table answering questions and providing guidance. The event concluded with open networking.
"The inaugural "Life After the Game" event marked a resounding success as we connected current and former Dragons, effectively bridging the gap to the future," said Peaches Brown, Drexel's
Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. "Our alumni played a vital role, generously sharing their insights and guidance on navigating life, sports, co-op programs and college experiences. I am thrilled about the prospect of continuing to bridge this gap and providing our student-athletes with such unique opportunities."
