Women’s Rowing Finishes Third at CAA Championships

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The Drexel women's rowing team came away with three bronze medals, finishing third at the CAA Championships on the Cooper River Saturday morning. The Dragons finished with 33 points.
For their efforts during the championships and throughout the season, Julianna Rogers and Chloe Speciale were named CAA All-Conference.
The Varsity 8+ team of Chloe Speciale (Coxswain), Julianna Rogers (Stroke), Kira Tracy, Taylor Powell, Mollie Knoff, Kayla Driscoll, Rita Keefer, Ariana Townsend and Sarah Ghazaz (Bow) in Cara Fry came home in third place with a time of 7:00.733.
The closest race of the day came in the 2nd Varsity 8+ race. Rowing in Aleva XVII, Maddie Depommier (Coxswain), Margaret Dobrenko (Stroke), Fiona Steele, Baylor Henry, Kieran Harrington, Margaret Horgan, Katie Ernst, Colette Zidek and Jaelyn Walsh (Bow) collected the bronze medal with a time of 7:10.450. After a slow start out of the gate, the 2V8+ battled through the field and managed to reach third position with 1,000 meters left to go. The Dragons fought alongside the boat of UCSD until the Tritons pulled away late.
The 3rd Varsity 8+ team in Jim and Toni Downey, composed of Emma Houghton (Coxswain), Sabrina Batdorf (Stroke), Emma Doughty, Alex Tingley, Emily Ellis, Paige Hartshorn, Erin Ernst, Valentina Frusone and Leah Krise (Bow), also finished on the podium for bronze with a time of 7:31.407.
