PHILADELPHIA - Ariana Townsend of Drexel women's rowing has been selected to represent El Salvador at the U23 World Championships in St. Catharines, Canada, August 18-25. She becomes the first female Dragon to compete at Worlds.
The Washington D.C. native will row in the women's Single Sculls event. Townsend most recently helped guide El Salvador to a bronze medal in the women's 4x at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2023. She will be making her first international appearance at the World Championships.
Townsend raced in 12 races for the Dragons last season, splitting time with the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+. She was also a member of the DU boat that qualified for the Island Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta, the first team to do so in program history.
