GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite a 30-point performance by Amaris Baker, the Drexel women's basketball team could not hold off the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Friday night in Greensboro, N.C., 64-57.
BY THE NUMBERS
Baker scored a career-high 33 points in a 40 minute performance. The senior shot 13-for-24 and was successful from long range on five tries. Baker also grabbed four rebounds.
Cara McCormack scored the 1000th point of her career in the closing minutes of the game. The graduate student finished with six points with three rebounds and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was the Baker show to begin the game. The senior shot 5-for-9 and scored all of Drexel's points in the first quarter. The Dragons held A&T to just eight points on 4-for-15, including an 0-for-5 mark from long range.
The Dragons scored 17 points in the second frame and held the Aggies to 16. Baker paced the Dragons once more with eight points, hitting a pair of treys. Mariah Watkins was successful on both of her field goal attempts. The Aggies struggled from beyond the arc once more, going 1-for-4 from deep.
The Aggies took their first lead with 2:11 in the third quarter. However the Dragons took back the lead and ended the quarter with a one-point advantage. Baker scored six more points in the third frame and tied a career-high of 26 points. The Dragons led the Aggies, 42-41, at the end of the third quarter.
The two teams traded blows in the fourth quarter. The Aggies held a three-point lead heading into the final media timeout of the game. The Aggies controlled the rest of the game after the media timeout to extend their lead to seven.

Drexel completes its three-game road trip on Sunday, January 19. The Dragons travel to Hampton, Va. to face the Pirates at 2 p.m.
