
Baker Scores Basket in Final Seconds to Help Drexel Defeat Hampton, 59-58

PHILADELPHIA – Amaris Baker's shot with three-seconds remaining secured Drexel a road win against Hampton on Sunday afternoon, 59-58. The senior scored Drexel's final 12 points of the game to erase a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter and push Drexel to a 7-8 record and a 3-2 mark in the CAA.
BY THE NUMBERS
Baker finished the game with 22 points. It is the 11th straight game in double digits. The senior also tallied five rebounds.
Grace O'Neill finished with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.
It is the first time the Dragons scored in the final 10 seconds of a game to win since Chloe Hodges scored with three seconds remaining against Towson in the CAA Semifinals in 2024.
HOW IT HAPPENED
All seven Dragons who saw action in the first quarter scored at least two points as Drexel outscored the Pirates, 20-17 in the first 10 minutes. The Dragons shot efficiently, connecting on 7-of-16 shots. Molly Lavin paced the Dragons with four points, while Amaris Baker, Grace O'Neill, Cara McCormack and Deja Evans all had three points.
Hampton took the lead with just over a minute left to play in the second quarter. The Dragons only shot 2-for-13 in the second frame, while the Pirates made 6-for-12. Cara McCormack led the Dragons in scoring after the first half. Hampton went into the locker room at halftime ahead by three points, 30-27.
In the third quarter, Hampton's lead grew to three after outscoring Drexel, 18-16. A perfect quarter by Grace O'Neill helped Drexel stay in the contest. The junior shot 4-for-4 from the field and connected on two treys to put up a total of 11 points. Baker scored five points in the frame to push her total to eight. After the third quarter, Hampton led Drexel, 48-43.
Drexel was able to take a brief lead with 1:36 left after Baker led a 7-point run. However, Hampton drew a foul and was awarded a pair of free throws with 58.9 seconds left. With Jenae Dublin at the line, the senior made both attempts and took the lead back. With three seconds remaining, Baker made a base line floater to give Drexel its one point lead. After Hampton advanced the ball with a timeout and took a shot as shortly after the clock expired. After review, Hampton did not shoot the ball before the clock expired
