STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Liv Brocious' early goal was not enough as Drexel fell to Stony Brook, 3-1. The Dragons drop their first road contest of the season as DU moves to 2-4-8 overall and 1-2-2 in CAA play.
The Dragons got on the board first, scoring their quickest goal of the season just three minutes into the match. Jess Castorina beat two Seawolve defenders and fired a shot off inside the box. The Stony Brook goalkeeper initially made the save, but Brocious pounced on the deflection for the score.
The Seawolves responded in the 21st minute to tie the game at 1-1. Sammy Hannwacker curled the corner kick attempt just over the gloves of Sammy Widnick and into the net for the equalizer.
Stony Brook added another in the 36th minute. Hedvig Helling sent a cross in front of the box to Linn Beck, who crashed down the middle. Her first shot bounced off the crossbar, but she was able to bury the second chance.
Beck tallied her second goal of the afternoon in the 63rd minute. Hannwacker's feed into the box beat the Drexel defender as Beck finished with her right boot.
Drexel moves on to game two of the four-game road trip on Sunday as they battle Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. Action is set for 1 p.m.
