Dragons Fall to Penn, 84-68

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel Dragons fell to the Penn Quakers Friday evening, 84-68, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Sophomore Josh Reed led the team with a career-high of 21 points. With the loss, Drexel will play La Salle for fifth place in the Big 5 Classic on December 6.
BY THE NUMBERS
Reed shot 64% from the field and finished the night with five rebounds and a steal.
Shane Blakeney scored 11 points, blocked the ball twice and had a steal.
Garfield Turner tied his season-high of seven rebounds.
Victor Panov returned after missing the previous two games with eight points and four rebounds.
The team ended the night shooting 42.2% from the field and outscoring Penn in the paint, 36-28. The Dragons' bench outscored the Quakers' bench 40-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn jumped out to an early lead, 15-6, before a Josh Reed layup helped spark a comeback. A Ralph Akuta dunk brought the lead down to four with 7:10 remaining in the first half.
Panov tipped the ball in to bring the lead down to two with six minutes in the half. The rest of the first half remained competitive, with the score being 43-38 Penn at the half.
In the second half, Penn pulled ahead with 10-5 and 11-2 runs. Despite this, the Dragons were able to hold the Quakers to only four three-pointers in the period. Three-point shots from Eli Beard and Horace Simmons Jr. brought the Dragons within five and six points of Penn, respectively. Drexel made four of its last five shots to end the game.
