Women's Basketball to Begin Season on the Road at Pitt

PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's basketball team is set to begin its 2025-26 campaign with a matchup against an ACC opponent. The Dragons travel to Pitt on Tuesday to face the Panthers at the Petersen Events Center at 6 p.m.
Last Year Recap
The Dragons completed its 11th straight winning season after posting a 17-13 record, tying for third in the regular season in the Coastal Athletic Association with a 12-6 tab in conference play. Led by First Team All-CAA honoree Amaris Baker, Drexel clinched the fourth seed of the CAA Tournament and received a double-bye to the CAA Quarterfinals. Baker, who led the CAA in scoring with 17.1 points per game. Joining Baker in the conference's postseason accolades was transfer Deja Evans, who was a defensive powerhouse for the Dragons. Evans finished the season with 66 blocks and propelled herself into the Drexel record book now ranked seventh alltime in blocks. The Dragons defeated La Salle on Nov. 13, 73- 40 to earn the program its first victory as members of the Philadelphia Big 5. The home game was one of the 12 home games that Drexel won during the season, marking a 12-2 record inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center. In Drexel's game against North Carolina A&T on January 17, Cara McCormack scored the 1000th point of her career. Academically, the Dragons finished with a 3.69 team GPA and had four Dragons finish with a 4.0 and a spot on the Dean's List. Iriona Gravely, Molly Lavin, Laine McGurk and Mariah Watkins all finished with straight A's.
The Pollsters Have Spoken (Part I)
The Dragons were picked to finish second in the CAA Preseason poll for the second-straight season. This season, Drexel returns three starters and added three high-powered pieces who will contribute immediately. The three starters returning to the team this season includes Amaris Baker, the league's scoring leader, Grace O'Neill, a leader in minutes played a season ago, and Deja Evans, one of the premiere defensive players in the CAA.
The Toyota Women's Big 5 Classic
Drexel is set to play in its second year of Big 5 Classic action. Throughout the non conference schedule the six city schools play in pods and compete against the other pods respective seed at the Finneran Pavilion on Villanova's campus.
Pod one includes Saint Joseph's, Penn and Drexel. Pod two hosts Villanova, La Salle and Temple. Drexel is set to play its pod games on November 12 and November 29. The Dragons host Penn on the 12th, while DU travels to SJU on the 29th to finish pod play. The Toyota Women's Big 5 Classic is scheduled for Sunday, December 7.

It will be the third matchup for Pitt and Drexel. The two teams last met in 20144, where Pitt defeated Drexel 72- 53. The Dragons were victorious in the Steel City in 2011, defeating the Panthers, 71-50.
Looking Ahead
Drexel finishes its brief roadtrip to start the season on Friday, playing Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Action against the Red Foxes is set for 7 p.m.
