Howard Tops Drexel in Close Contest, 74-66

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team dropped a close, 74-66, game to Howard on Tuesday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Kevon Vanderhorst led the team with a career-high 30 points.
BY THE NUMBERS
Vanderhorst shot a season-high 72.7% from the field and co-led the team in assists with four.
Villiam Garcia Adsten was second in points, scoring 11 to go with six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
Josh Reed scored eight points and pulled in two rebounds.
Drexel shared the ball well, finishing with 14 assists to Howard's 11. Additionally, the Dragons blocked seven Bison shots and held them to only three three-pointers all game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was initially a hard-fought, back-and-forth defensive battle. A second-chance layup from Garcia Adsten at 16:43 pulled the Dragons within two before the Bison went on a 20-8 run. A three-point shot from Vanderhorst with 5:05 remaining kicked off a 10-7 run to pull Drexel within eleven, trailing 36-25 at the half.
The Dragons carried the momentum into the second half, starting with a Vanderhorst and-one 51 seconds in, which began an 8-2 run. A three-pointer from Shane Blakeney and another free throw from Vanderhorst pulled the Dragons within four points with 15:45 remaining. The Bison extended their lead with a 12-3 run before a Josh Reed three at 12:05 started a 10-2 run. Vanderhorst cut the lead to four with a three-pointer at 5:41, but ultimately the Bison were able to hold onto their lead.
