Panov, Akuta Score Career Highs in Drexel's Win 75-67 Over Mount Saint Mary's

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's basketball team continued their homestand with a gritty, 75-67 win over Mount Saint Mary's Friday night. Victor Panov and Ralph Akuta led the way with career nights, scoring career-highs of 16 and 11 points, respectively.
BY THE NUMBERS
Panov was dominant on both sides of the floor, recording seven defensive rebounds to go with a steal and a block.
Akuta shot 5/7 from the field while shutting down opponents on defense: blocking two shots and stealing the ball once.
Kevon Vanderhorst was a perfect six for six from the free throw line and finished the night with 11 points.
Shane Blakeney stole the ball a career-best six times while putting up 14 points. Blakeney has recorded at least ten points in nine of his last twelve games.
The Dragons made 53% of their shots and shot a season-high 83% from the free-throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half started as a close defensive battle. Back-to-back three pointers from Blakeney and Martin De Laporterie helped put the Dragons ahead with 16:26 remaining. A dunk with Akuta put the Dragons up five with 14:29 remaining.
Neither team was able to pull away until three-pointers from Villiam Garcia Adsten and Eli Beard put Drexel ahead 22-19 with 9:12 remaining. At halftime, the Dragons led 38-33.
Drexel started the second half with a 16-8 run capped off with a pair of free throws from Josh Reed to put the Dragons up 53-35 with 12:15 remaining. The Mountaineers battled their way back, with a 20-14 run to cut the lead down to nine with 3:46 remaining in the game, but a layup from Panov and free throws from Beard helped seal the win for Drexel.
