PHILADELPHIA — Jordan Soriano took down Penn State's Cael Nasdeo as Drexel hosted the four-time defending NCAA National Champions in a sold-out Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons ultimately fell 43–3 to the nation's top-ranked team in what marked the first sellout in Drexel wrestling history.
Soriano delivered Drexel's lone points of the night, earning an 8–5 decision over Nasdeo. The Westbury, N.Y., native has now defeated Nasdeo in back-to-back seasons, following an 11–8 decision win last year in State College.
Nasdeo struck first with a takedown in the opening minute, putting Soriano in an early hole. Trailing 3–1 in the second, Soriano battled back with three points to even the bout at 4–4 heading into the final period. He secured an escape and later added a decisive takedown in the third to close out the 8–5 victory.
Drexel went up against a loaded Penn State lineup that featured five former All-Americans and two NCAA champions. The Nittany Lions secured bonus points in all nine of their victories, posting three tech falls and a pin on the night.
The Dragons will take on their second consecutive Big Ten opponent when they travel to Rutgers on Sunday, December 14. Action is scheduled for 1 p.m.
