PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Kyle Waterman and Luke Nichter highlighted the day for the Dragons, each earning wins against ranked opponents as Drexel fell to Rutgers, 28-12, in a competitive matchup. Three Dragons earned victories, including a come-from-behind victory by Jordan Soriano.
The Dragons found themselves with a 12-6 lead at intermission in their second consecutive battle with a Big Ten opponent. The Scarlet Knights managed to win their last five matches, including taking bonus points in their last four.
Waterman put Drexel on the board at 133 pounds with an upset of No. 13 Dylan Shawver. He collected a takedown late in the first period and opened the second with an escape to take a 4-0 lead. Shawver battled back to tie the match at 4-4, but a late escape by Waterman was enough to secure the upset.
Soriano found himself down 7-2 late in the second quarter before earning the comeback win. Soriano managed to get the fall with just eight seconds left in the second period to stay undefeated in dual competition this season (4-0).
Nichter redeemed himself against No. 26 Anthony White, securing a takedown in sudden victory to earn the win. The redshirt senior had previously fallen to White earlier this season at the Keystone Classic by a 14–3 major decision. Nichter scrambled in overtime and grabbed the leg to seal the victory.
Drexel heads to the West Coast on Saturday, December 20 to battle both Cal Poly and Cal Baptist.
