Drexel Sweeps Cal Poly and CBU in West Coast Trip

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Drexel wrestling pulled off the sweep against Cal Poly and Cal Baptist in their tri-meet Saturday afternoon in California. The Dragons improve to 4-2 to close out the 2025 calendar. DU opened the day with a 24-11 victory over the Mustangs before rallying from a 12-0 deficit against CBU to defeat the Lancers, 21-18.
Match 1
The Dragons opened the tri-meet with a 24-11 victory over Cal Poly, winning six of the 10 bouts and earning bonus points in four matches. The win marked the second consecutive season Drexel has defeated the Mustangs, as DU stays a perfect 5-0 in the all-time series.
Jordan Soriano started things at 141 pounds, rolling to a 15-3 major decision over Alek VanBebber to remain undefeated at 5-0 in dual competition. Cody Walsh followed with a 7-4 sudden victory win over Luke Gayer, regaining the lead for Drexel, 7-5
No. 14 Jasiah Queen extended the advantage with a dominant 14-5 major decision over Cash Steward, while Ibrahim Ameer impressed at 197 pounds with a commanding 16-5 victory.
No. 30 Nate Schon recorded the Dragons' biggest upset of the dual, defeating No. 20 Trevor Tinker, 8-5, in sudden victory. Schon built a 4-0 lead in the second period before Tinker rallied to take a 5-4 advantage. With seconds remaining, Schon earned an escape to force overtime. Schon was able to block a shot from Tinker and secured his second takedown of the match to seal the win.
Kyle Waterman capped the scoring at 133 pounds, earning six team points due to medical forfeit to clinch the 24-11 dual victory for Drexel.

The Dragons rallied from a 12-0 deficit to defeat Cal Baptist, 21-18, and complete a sweep of the tri-meet. Four straight victories from Walsh, Queen, Wilson and Ameer helped DU regain the lead as Drexel won five of the final seven matches.
Cody Walsh put the Dragons on the board at 165 pounds, earning his second sudden victory decision of the day with a win over Timothy Cowan. No. 14 Jasiah Queen followed with a dominant 21-5 technical fall, his first of the season.
Ethan Wilson bounced back after an earlier loss, cruising to a 13-3 major decision at 197 pounds. Ibrahim Ameer continued to impress with another decisive performance, recording Drexel's second technical fall of the dual.
Desmond Pleasant capped the scoring with a 11-3 major decision as the Dragons sealed the 21-18 comeback victory.
The Dragons return to the DAC in 2026 to face Purdue on Friday, Jan. 2. This will be Drexel's third of fourth matches against Big Ten opponents. Action is set for 1 p.m.
