Dragons Take Down No. 25 Purdue, 19-16

PHILADELPHIA — Nate Schon of the Drexel wrestling team sealed the dual victory for the Dragons over No. 25 Purdue Friday afternoon, 19-16. The redshirt junior scored the major decision in the final match of the day for Drexel's second consecutive win over the Boilermakers. This is the second consecutive season the Dragons have earned a win over a nationally ranked opponent.
Desmond Pleasant opened the dual for Drexel with a 9-4 decision over Jacob Macatangay. Pleasant fell behind early after Macatangay scored a takedown in the opening seconds. He responded with an escape and continued to press for a takedown but was unable to convert. Trailing into the third period, Pleasant found himself down 4-2 and went on the attack. Pleasant broke through for a takedown and added back points to secure the win.
Kyle Waterman followed up with an exciting come-from-behind victory at 133lbs. Purdue's Blake Boarman built a 12-4 advantage late in the second period before Waterman sparked a rally with a takedown to cut the deficit to five. Waterman added back-to-back takedowns to close within one, then scored again early in the third period and rode out the match to earn an 18-15 decision.
Luke Nichter upset No. 16 Stoney Buell by a major decision at 157lbs. Nichter secured four back points to take a 4-3 lead in the second period. After Buell escaped, Nichter answered with another takedown and continued to control the bout, rolling to a 12-4 victory.
Jasiah Queen rolled to a 19-3 technical fall win over Aidan Costello, his second of the season.
With Purdue battling back to take a 16-15 overall lead, Schon sealed the dual with a major decision over Hayden Filipovich. Schon scored two takedowns in the opening period and remained in control throughout, finishing with four takedowns in a 12-4 win to clinch the dual victory for Drexel.

Drexel will head to the Mid-Major National Duals January 9-10 in Cedar Falls, Iowa for the second consecutive season.
