Rullo and Evans Help Lift Women's Basketball Over Temple at Toyota Women's Big 5 Classic, 59-52

VILLANOVA, PA. – The Drexel women's basketball team defeated the Temple Owls, 59-52, as part of the Toyota Women's Big 5 Classic at Villanova's Finneran Pavilion. It is the program's first win at the classic and its first win against Temple in program history.
BY THE NUMBERS
Molly Rullo turned in a career performance, scoring 22 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing five assists. The freshman set career marks in points and assists and tied her career-high in rebounds. Rullo shot 8-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from deep.
Deja Evans finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. The junior also finished with three assists and three steals.
The Dragons forced 18 turnovers and held the Owl offense to 23 percent from long range.
Drexel finished its second season in the Women's Big 5 Classic in third place, following last season where the team finished in fourth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Temple took a five-point lead into the second quarter of the game after holding Drexel to six points and forcing seven turnovers. On the defensive end, the Dragons held Temple to just 4-for-15 from the field and forced seven turnovers as well. Laine McGurk paced the Dragons in the first 10 minutes with four points.
In the second quarter, Drexel held Temple to no points in the final five minutes of play and outscored the Owls 14-11. The Dragons received 10 points from Rullo on a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, including one from deep. Rullo also corralled three rebounds in the second quarter. Drexel trailed Temple, 22-20 at the half.
Drexel took its first lead since early in the first quarter with a three-pointer by Rullo with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter. The Dragons pushed their lead to four by the end of the third quarter. Deja Evans and Rullo led the Dragons with six points each.
Drexel carried a six-point lead into the final media timeout of the fourth quarter. Drexel maintained its high-powered offense, scoring 23 points in the final frame. Evans controlled the quarter, scoring 10 points. Rullo added six points to her stat sheet.

Drexel takes a brief break before returning to action on Tuesday, December 16. The Dragons will play in a doubleheader with Drexel's men's basketball team and face Chestnut Hill in the latter part of the two games. Tip from the Daskalakis Athletic Center is set for 3:30 p.m.
