Dragons Upended by Stony Brook, 66-59

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Drexel women's basketball team was defeated in the final regular season game of the season by the Stony Brook Seawolves, 66-59. Drexel led the Seawolves by one point heading into the fourth quarter, but Stony Brook scored 24 points in the final frame to defeat the Dragons. Drexel ends the regular season with a 16-12 record and 12-6 in Conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Deja Evans led the Dragons in scoring, finishing with 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting and grabbing eight rebounds.
Amaris Baker finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in the effort. Chloe Hodges rounded out Drexel's double-digit performers with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after shooting 4-for-8. The early run forced a Stony Brook timeout with just over six minutes to play in the quarter. The Dragons finished the quarter scoring 11 more points to take an eight-point lead into the second quarter. Baker led the Dragons with nine points on 3-for-6 shooting. Evans scored four points and grabbed four rebounds as well. Drexel held Stony Brook to just 4-for-9 in the first quarter.
Stony Brook opened the second quarter on a 12-3 run, erasing the deficit and taking the first lead of the game leading into the media timeout. The Dragons were able to slow down the Stony Brook offense in the back-half of the quarter, only allowing four more points. However, the Drexel offense struggled to kickstart in the second quarter, only scoring five points. Stony Brook went into the locker room at halftime with a 27-24 lead.
A 7-2 run by the Dragons to end the third quarter trimmed the Stony Brook lead to just one. The run was capped off by a last-second McCormack three to beat the buzzer. The graduate student ended the frame with five points. Evans led the Dragons, scoring six points on 3-for-3 shooting.
Stony Brook scored 24 points in the fourth frame and held Drexel to 18 points. While the Dragons shot 50 percent, Stony Brook shot 60 percent and went 11-for-15 from the charity stripe.
