Dragons Finish Runner-Up with 122.5 Points
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Three Dragons automatically qualified for March Matness at the EIWA Championships hosted by Lehigh University. Mickey O'Malley, Jasiah Queen and Jordan Soriano all punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon. O'Malley is now a five-time NCAA Qualifier, the first in program history. Soriano and Queen will both participate in their first NCAA Tournament of their careers.
Mert '67 and Joanne '69 Hill Head Wrestling Coach Matt Azevedo was named EIWA Coach of the Year. Additionally, the Dragons finished runner-up with 122.5 points. Lehigh were the overall champions with 143.5 points. This was DU's best finish at EIWAs, with a previous best of fifth.
All ten Dragons placed on the podium, the most of any team. This is only the second time Drexel has placed in all ten weight classes.
Kyle Waterman and Luke Nichter both fell in the first place match at 133-pounds and 157-pounds, respectively. They were the first Drexel wrestlers to reach a final since the 2022 season.
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will select the remaining 43 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 11. Brackets and seeding will be announced by NCAA.com at 8 p.m. on March 12. The 2025 NCAA Division I Championships will take place at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on March 20-22.
