
Drexel's NCAA Championships Come to an End

PHILADELPHIA - Mickey O'Malley, Jasiah Queen, and Jordan Soriano represented Drexel Thursday at the NCAA DI Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Center. All three wrestlers were eliminated in session two.
Session 1
No. 22 seed Jordan Soriano opened things up for the Dragons in the first NCAA tournament match of his career. He faced off against Virginia's No. 11 seed Dylan Cedeno. Soriano fell behind early in the first round. Cedeno earned the takedown in the opening seconds of the bout. Cedeno stayed in control, collecting nearly three minutes of riding time after the first.
Cedeno added four more points in period number two. He began the second with the escape, and collected a late takedown in the closing seconds of the period.
Soriano went for the attack in the final two minutes, but Cedeno was able to block and grab the ankle for three more points. Soriano finally got on the board with an escape point, but fell my major decision, 11-1.
No. 27 seed Jasiah Queen also battled in his first career Nationals bout. He faced off against No. 6 seed Brevin Cassella from EIWA rival Binghamton. Both wrestlers were evenly matched after one. Queen took lead 1-0 after the Cassella was given a penalty.
Queen blocked a shot in the second, but lost the lead due to a stalling call. Things were tied at one apiece heading to the third. Queen decided to start in the neutral, allowing Cassella another point. Queen was called for another stall call, giving Casella the 3-1 decision win.
No. 22 seed O'Malley closed things out for Drexel in session one. The graduate student qualified for his fifth NCAA Championships, the first wrestler in school history to accomplish this feat. He battled Princeton's No. 11 seed Luke Stout.
The first three minutes saw a close contest, with neither wrestler able to score. Stout scored first with an escape point. O'Malley turned the tables on Stout, rolling out and recording the takedown to take a 3-1 lead. O'Malley went for a pin attempt, but Stout turned the tables to take the two reversal points. Both wrestlers went without scoring a point in the third, but Stout pulled out the win due to riding time.
Session 2
Soriano faced off against Purdue's Greyson Clark in the consolation first round. Clark got the early advantage, scoring a takedown at the 2:20 mark. Soriano scored an escape point after a reset before Clark kept the pressure on. He collected another three points to extend the lead to 6-1. Soriano gained some momentum as he went on the attack, but was unable to score before the buzzer sounded. Both wrestlers did not score in the second period.
At the start of the third, Clark gained two more points thanks to a reversal. Soriano countered with a reversal of his own, cutting the lead down to 8-3. Clark finished out the bout with five more points as he cruised to a 13-3 major decision. Soriano was eliminated from his first NCAA Championships, finishing with a 0-2 record.
Queen NCAA Championships came to an end with a 3-0 decision loss to Penn's Nick Incontrera. In the consolations first round, the wrestler from Penn scored two escape points, and added one more due to a penalty from Queen. Queen finished 0-2 on the day.
O'Malley rounded things out for the Dragons in the final consolation round match against Cornell's Michael Dellagatta. The graduate student went for a pin against Dellagatta, but was unsuccessful. Dellagatta avoided it and earned the takedown.
Dellagatta opened the second round with a reversal. He gains five more points to get the major decision, 9-0.
