Women’s Rowing Advances All Five Boats to Grand Finals at Knecht Cup Regatta

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - All five of the Drexel women's rowing teams advanced to Grand Finals at The Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River Saturday. The V8+, 2V8+, V4+, 2V4+ and Novice 8+ will compete for gold tomorrow in Cherry Hill, N.J.
After taking the top spot in their heat, the Varsity 8+ team clocked in with a second place finish in the semi-final race. The boat of Lauren Shaw (Coxswain), Emily Ellis (Stroke), Ellen McCallin, Margaret Dobrenko, Hannah Walseth, Taylor Powell, Sabrina Batdorf, Baylor Henry, and Grace Conroy (Bow) raced Jim & Toni Downey to a time of 7:15.87, three seconds behind Bucknell. The Dragons will look to take gold for just the second time in program history, and their second straight at the event.
The 2nd Varsity 8+ crew was victorious in their semi-final race. Rowing in Alleva XVII, Erin Ernst (Coxswain), Ariana Townsend (Stroke), Sarah Ghazaz, Maggie Horgan, Fiona Steele, Lila Seidenberg, Colette Zidek, Jaelyn Walsh, and Kieran Harrington (Bow) came home with a time of 7:28.39, nearly five seconds ahead of Jacksonville.
The Varsity 4+ boat finished second in the semi-final, crossing the line behind Boston at 8:30.62.
