Four Boats Take Home Gold at Kerr Cup Regatta
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel women's rowing team captured four gold medals in choppy conditions at the Kerr Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River Saturday afternoon. The Varsity 8+ crew won their seventh straight Lela H. Kerr Cup. The 2V8+, V4+, and 2V4+ also placed atop the podium.
The crew of Lauren Shaw (Coxswain), Emily Ellis (Stroke), Ellen McCallin, Margaret Dobrenko, Hannah Walseth, Taylor Powell, Colette Zidek, Baylor Henry, and Sabrina Batdorf (Bow) was even with the boat from La Salle out the gates. They were able to pull away by nearly five seconds to collect the Cup once again, finishing at a time of 7:42.35.
The 2V8+ team cruised to victory, crossing the line with a time of 8:09.78. Erin Ernst (Coxswain), Ariana Townsend (Stroke), Sarah Ghazaz, Maggie Horgan, Fiona Steele, Lila Seidenberg, Kieran Harrington, Lauren Boyce, and Grace Conroy (Bow) took gold for the first time since the 2023 season. The Dragons finished 14 seconds ahead of the second place Lehigh team.
