PHILADELPHIA - Emily Ellis and Fiona Steele of Drexel women's rowing have been named to the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Team. In order to be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must be in their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Ellis made nine starts with the varsity 8+ team in the stroke seat as Drexel captured multiple gold medals throughout the spring. The Dragons once again took home the top spot at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, collecting the overall points title in consecutive seasons. Earlier in the season, the Malvern product helped lead the team to their seventh straight victory at the Kerr Cup. DU also secured hardware at the Kelly Cup over their Philadelphia rivals. Ellis ended her career at Drexel with a bronze medal position at the CAA Championships.
Steele was named to the All-CAA team after an impressive season with the second varsity 8+ team. The Westmond, N.J., native made 11 starts in her senior campaign, competing in six races with the 2V8+ crew. The Dragons picked up gold at the Dad Vail, cruising to the win by six seconds over Georgetown. She guided Drexel to two more wins at the Kerr Cup and Kelly Cup as well as a silver medal at the conference championships.
