PHILADELPHIA — The Drexel wrestling team secured the EIWA Independence Division title for the second consecutive season, rolling past LIU Sunday afternoon, 39-6. Drexel collected four wins via pin, as eight of ten Dragons saw their hand raised. Drexel improves to 13-5 on the season, matching the most under Mert '67 and Joanne '69 Hill Head Coach of Wrestling Matt Azedeo's tenure.
Prior to Sunday's dual, Drexel honored the following seniors for their contributions to the program on and off the mat: Ibrahim Ameer, Aboubakare Diaby, Luke Nichter, Deon Pleasant, Desmond Pleasant, Jordan Soriano, Cody Walsh, Kyle Waterman and Shane Whitney.
The Dragons started hot as Desmond Pleasant picked up his eighth technical fall victory of the season. The redshirt senior recorded six takedowns in the bout on the way to a 21-6 win.
Waterman and Soriano secured the Dragons' first pair of falls to take a 17-0 advantage after three matches, with both recording second-period pins. Soriano's fall was his fifth of the season, a team high.
Deon Pleasant followed with his fourth dual victory of the season at 149 pounds to make it four straight for the Dragons. Walsh and Dom Findora added two more pins for Drexel, both their second of the season.

Wilson fell behind late in the first period as Anthony D'Alesio grabbed a leg for a takedown with eight seconds remaining. Wilson opened the second period with an escape and later added a takedown to take a 4-3 lead. The redshirt junior tacked on another point in the third to secure the 5-3 decision.
