Dragons Fall to Maryland on Tiebreaker, 20-19

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Drexel wrestling team fell to Maryland Friday night on a tiebreaker, 20-19. Nate Schon powered through for a major decision to knot the score at 19-19, but the Terrapins claimed the win on match points, 89-82.
Desmond Pleasant gave the Dragons the early lead in the first bout of the night. The redshirt senior earned his 20th win of the season, securing five takedowns on his way to the major decision.
Maryland claimed the next three matches, scoring 11 unanswered points to take an 11–4 lead. Drexel responded with three straight victories of its own. Gavin Carroll sparked the run, earning the first dual win of his career. The freshman secured his first takedown of the bout at the buzzer to close the second period and added another in the third. Mekhi Neal avoided the major decision with a late escape, as Carroll sealed an 8-1 victory.
Cody Walsh followed at 165 pounds, cruising to a 13-4 major decision to secure his team-leading 23rd win of the season. Dom Findora added another victory at 174 pounds, giving the Dragons back-to-back major decisions. Findora carried a 14-3 lead into the third period before Maryland's Seth Digby responded with two takedowns. The Downingtown, Pa., native countered with a key reversal and held on to secure the win.
Nate Schon closed things out for Drexel, collecting his sixth consecutive victory. Schon secured a late takedown to earn the major decision, but it wasn't enough to clinch the dual for the Dragons.
