Drexel Advances to CAA Semifinals With Victory Over Elon, 68-53

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drexel women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Credit Union 1 2026 CAA Championships on Friday night, after defeating the #6 Elon Phoenix, 68-53. The Dragons advance to the Saturday's semifinal game against the No. 10 Hofstra Pride.
BY THE NUMBERS
Bria Watkins' 13-point performance is the seventh best performance by a freshman at the CAA Tournament for Drexel. Molly Rullo finished the game with 10 points The last time a Drexel freshman scored north of 10 was Kylie Lavelle against Monmouth in 2023. This is the first time in the CAA Tournament that Drexel had two freshmen in double figures.
Amaris Baker paced the Dragons with 16 points on Friday night, shooting 5-for-11 and sinking two treys.
The Dragons held the Phoenix to just 18-for-53 from the field and 5-for-17 from long range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dragons jumped out to an early eight-point lead after scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Watkins and Rullo each chipped in six points to lead Drexel. Evans finished the quarter with four points.
The two teams traded blows in the second quarter, but it was Elon who gained the upper hand in the quarter, outscoring the Dragons, 20-17. The Dragons held the Phoenix to just 6-for-14 but allowed Elon to get to the charity stripe eight times, which Elon converted seven. On the offensive end, Drexel shot 7-for-14 and connected on a pair of treys. Baker led the Dragons in scoring, converting on three field goals and two from deep. The graduate student finished the quarter with nine points. Drexel went into the locker room ahead by five, 37-32.
Both teams scored 11 points in the third frame to hold Drexel's lead at five. Watkins led the Dragons with three points. The Dragons entered the final frame ahead, 48-43.
Drexel outscored Elon, 20-10 in the fourth quarter to create a 15-point lead and coast into the semifinals. Watkins added to her total, scoring six points on two field goals, followed by Baker, who chipped in five points.
