WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nate Schon punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio Friday night, pinning Army's No. 1-seeded Brady Colbert at the EIWA Championships. The win advances Schon to the finals of the 285-pound bracket.
The redshirt junior got the victory just over a minute into the semi-final bout. Schon went on the attack out the gates, securing the takedown and putting Colbert's shoulders on the mat in just 1:06. The fall was Schon's fifth of the season, as he has a chance to become the first heavyweight to win an EIWA Championship at Drexel.
Overall, Drexel finished the day fifth in team points with 84. Lehigh leads the field with 123.5 points, followed by Bucknell, Navy and Army. All ten Dragons advanced to the second day of the tournament, with Drexel guaranteed to place all ten wrestlers on the podium for the second consecutive season.
Four Dragons reached the semi-finals on Friday, as Desmond Pleasant (125), Kyle Waterman (133) and Cody Walsh (165) each fell short of advancing to the finals. Jasiah Queen and Walsh remain alive in the consolation bracket and can still earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
