CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The Drexel women's rowing Varsity 4+ captured gold at the Knecht Cup Sunday morning on the Cooper River. This is the first time the V4+ has won gold at the Regatta during Paul Savell's tenure. The Second Varsity 4+ captured a bronze medal as four Drexel boats finished top-five.
The Varsity 4+ crew of Katie O'Donnell (coxswain), Michaela Werber (stroke), Hazel Danko, Olivia Duffy, and River Trotter (bow) crossed the line in 8:09.73, finishing 2.4 seconds ahead of second-place Boston College.
Rowing in Laura Ludwick White, Drexel trailed Jacksonville by nearly a boat length at the 500-meter mark, but surged back to take a slight lead over the Dolphins by the halfway point. With 500 meters remaining, Boston College moved into second and closed the gap to within half a boat length, but the Dragons held firm down the stretch to secure the win by nearly a boat length.
The 2V4+ crew of Breanna Robles (coxswain), Paige Hartshorn (stroke), Giulia Nevrotski, Kari Prosperi, and Emerson Donahue (bow), rowing in Marci, finished third with a time of 8:35.87, as Temple claimed the top spot, finishing nearly five seconds ahead.
The Varsity 8+ placed second in the Final 4 race, crossing the line in 6:56.28.
The Dragons return to the water on Saturday, April 18 against Georgetown on the Schuylkill River.
