Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day One of the Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's tennis team wrapped up Day One of the Penn Invitational on Friday.

In the first round, Anastasia Kavounov won the first set against Cookie Jarvis-Tredgett 6-2 before falling in the next two 6-3 and 1-0 (8). Isabella De Micco picked up her first college win against Varsha Vedula 7-5 and 7-6 (6).

Singles play in the second round saw De Micco fall to Lara Stojanovski, 7-6 (5) and 6-3. Joanne Hartono fell to Emma Tomova, 6-2 and 6-3. Ely Laure A-Sou dropped her match to Liza Tkachenko 6-0 and 6-0.

In the second round's doubles play, De Micco and Kavounov won a thrilling match over Stojanovski and Sasha Motlagh, 7-6 (5). Hartono and Sogomonyan dropped a close, 7-6 (6), match to Joleen Saw and Athina Schlepphorst. Laure A-Sou and Bia Ibrahim fell to Tkachenko and Tomova, 6-2.

The Dragons will return to the court tomorrow for Day Two of the Penn Invitational.
