Rich Bertie MS, LAT, ATC, PES joined the Drexel athletic training staff in August, 2021. He is an associate athletic trainer and primarily oversees all medical aspects for the men’s basketball team.
Bertie comes to Drexel after a short stint at Kutztown University where he worked with the track & field teams. Prior to Kutztown, he briefly worked as an athletic trainer at UPMC. Bertie was at Wake Forest University in 2019-2020 , where he worked with the men's basketball team and acted as the NCAA/DoD CARE Research Coordinator. He began his professional career with a five-year stretch from 2014-2019 at Saint Francis University that included time as the associate director of sports medicine working with the men's basketball and women's soccer teams.
Bertie was awarded the 2022 PATS Service Award which is given to an individual who completes at least five years of professional service and has made a significant impact on the members of the Society. Bertie currently chairs the NATA District 2 Career Advancement Committee, the PATS Corporate Relations Committee, and serves as a committee member of the PADOH Concussion Research Grant Committee. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA), Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society (PATS), and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society (CATS).
Bertie earned a Master of Science Degree in exercise & health promotion from California University of PA in 2014. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in athletic training from Lock Haven University in 2013 with minors in sport psychology and coaching. Bertie holds certifications in Blood Flow Restriction Therapy, QPR Instruction, and is a Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES).
