Ryan Platt joined the Drexel men's soccer coaching staff prior to the 2012 season and spent three seasons working with the men's squad in University City. This year, he changed gears and became a part of the women's soccer staff as an assistant coach that works primarily with goalkeepers.
Along with men's soccer head coach Doug Hess and the rest of the coaching staff, Platt helped Drexel win back-to-back outright CAA regular season championships in 2012 and 2013, adding a CAA Tournament title in 2013 and NCAA Tournament appearances in both seasons. He also helped the team to a top-25 ranking and an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament in 2012. A year after guiding senior keeper Tim Washam to eight shutouts and an All-CAA nod in 2012, Platt mentored freshman Tyler Afflerbach to six shutouts, the CAA title and another All-CAA selection in 2013.
A standout goalkeeper during his playing career, Platt will continue to mentor the Dragons' keepers this season. Platt began his career at Nazareth College, a Division III school, where he earned All-Conference honors as a sophomore and was six times named the league's Player of the Week during his two years there. He had six shutouts in Nazareth's first nine games during the 2009 season before transferring to Georgia Southern, where he completed his playing career.
Platt's 2009 season with Nazareth remains one of the greatest in NCAA history. His .923 save percentage ranks him 12th all-time amongst Division III goalkeepers for a single season, and 14th across all NCAA divisions. In 2011, as a senior at Georgia Southern, Platt finished ninth in Division I with 5.53 saves per game, finishing with a .761 save percentage.
