John White, who was selected to lead Drexel's squash programs in April 2011, enters his 14th season at the helm of the Dragons in 2024-25. White, who came to Drexel after serving a four-year stint as the head coach at Franklin & Marshall, was a world-class squash player and is now one of the game's top instructors. The only head coach Drexel varsity squash has ever known, White has elevated the men’s and women’s teams to national prominence.
Through 14 seasons, White has led the men to a 137-116 record and the women to a 127-115 mark. He was named the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Men's Coach of the Year in 2024-25.
Both the men's and women's teams finished the 2022-23 season ranked fifth in the nation. It was the highest ranking at the end of the season in the history of the men's squash program. Matias Knudsen was named a First Team All-American. It was the fourth time in his career that he was named to an All-American Team. The women had two First Team All-Americans in the same season for the first time. Alina Bushma was a back-to-back recipient of First Team All-America honors. Karina Tyma was also a First Team selection for the second time in her career.
The women's team enjoyed a breakout season in 2021-22 advancing to the national championship match. The victories against Princeton and Trinity in the national quarterfinals and semifinals were the first ever for the program against those schools in team history and highlighted a program best 16-5 record. Individually, several players had standout seasons with Alina Bushma earning First Team All-America Honors and Karina Tyma garnering a Second Team All-America nod. Bushma, Tyma, Margot Prow, Noa Romero, Sanya Vats, Dina Rosli, and Brooke Herring were named All-Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference and Bushma, Prow, Hatti Specter, Lara Varma, and Ciara Richards received MASC All-Academic accolades. Additionally, Rosli, opened her career with 17 wins in a row and Romero set a school single-season record with 18 victories.
On the men's side, Drexel advanced to the Potter Cup for the third time and earned a seventh place finish, beating Virginia on the final day of competition. Following a 12-8 regular season that included a win against No. 7 Cornell, three Dragons earned All-America honors as Matias Knudsen was named to the First Team with Lucas Rousselet and Haris Qasim picking up Second Team honors. Qasim was named the MASC Men's Co-Rookie of the Year and was joined on the All-Conference Team by Knudsen, Rousselet, Fritiof Jacobsson, and Dylan Kachur.
The Drexel women won a then program-best 12 matches in 2019-20 en route to a second-straight appearance in the Howe Cup at CSA Nationals and a win over Penn in the seventh-place match for the second time in as many years. Earlier in the season, the Dragons picked up their first win over a top-four opponent with a 5-4 result over No. 4 Stanford on Nov. 22. The next day, Drexel notched its first win over Columbia by an identical 5-4 score. Those two wins propelled the Dragons to the No. 5 spot in the CSA rankings on Dec. 10, their highest-ever placement. The men’s team notched 10 wins in 2019-20, reaching the double-digit plateau for the first time in three seasons. A solid start with wins over top-10 opponents in Columbia, Yale and Rochester vaulted the Dragons to No. 5 in the CSA rankings, which matched the highwater mark set in early 2017. That 5-4 result over No. 6 Rochester on Dec. 8 marked the program’s first-ever win over the Yellowjackets. Late-season injuries curtailed Drexel’s momentum, but the Dragons made the Potter Cup at the CSA Team Championships for the second time and finished the season ranked eighth in the nation. Drexel sent six men to the CSA Individual Championships and saw both Matias Knudsen and Lucas Rousselet earn second team all-American honors.
