Meghan Creighton
- Title:
- Staff Assistant
Meghan Creighton joins the coaching staff for Denise Dillon and the Drexel women's basketball program for the 2017-18 season. Creighton spent the previous five years starring on the court for the Dragons, where she left as the winningest player in program history.
Creighton began her Drexel career in 2012-13, starting all 38 games as the Dragons won the WNIT, the first postseason tournament title in the histories of Philadelphia and Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball. She remained the starting point guard throughout her time at Drexel, finishing her career with a program-record 142 games played, all starts.
A CAA All-Rookie seleciton as a freshman, Creighton remained one of the top guards in the league over the next five seasons. She missed most of the 2014-15 campaign due to a knee injury, but returned in 2015-16 to dish out 184 assists, one shy of a Drexel program record.
As a senior, Creighton became one of the most prolific and efficient three-point shooters in the nation, finishing 10th in the nation with a .441 three-point percentage and 30th nationally with 89 threes made, again finishing one off a Drexel program record. That year, Creighton went 7-for-10 from long range in a thrilling 62-61 victory over then-No. 11 Syracuse, the highest ranked team the Dragons have ever defeated. She sank the game-winning three-pointer with less than 10 seconds to play in that game. Later in the year, Creighton was 10-for-14 from long range in a victory over UNCW, establishing a new Drexel record for threes in a game and tying the CAA record, as well as the mark for most by any Division I player in 2016-17. After her senior season, Creighton returned to the All-CAA squad with a Third Team selection.
Creighton, who also holds a Drexel single-game record with 13 assists against Sacred Heart on Dec. 7, 2014, finished her career as the fourth player in CAA history to accumulate 1,000 career points, 500 career assists and 400 career rebounds. She is ninth in CAA history and third in Drexel annals with 264 career threes, and fourth in league history with a .364 career three-point percentage, second-best all-time at Drexel. Her 557 career assists also ranks second all-time among Dragons players, and her .794 career free throw percentage is eighth overall in program history. Creighton sits 20th on the Drexel leaderboard with 1,088 career points. She was on the court for 88 total wins, the most of any player in Drexel program history.
The 2016 CAA Dean Ehlers Leadership Award recipient, Creighton followed that up by raising over $20,000 for charity through her Assisting Others program as a senior in 2016-17.
