Former Drexel squash player Mary Fung-A-Fat begins her third season as a member of the Dragons’ coaching staff in 2020. The program’s former career wins record holder, Fung-A-Fat entered the coaching ranks as a volunteer assistant prior to the 2018-19 season.
Fung-A-Fat helped oversee the finest season in women’s program history in 2019-20, her first as a full-time coach. Drexel won a team-best 12 matches, made its second-straight appearance in the Howe Cup and finished the season ranked seventh in the nation. The Dragons notched their first victory over a top-four opponent with a 5-4 win over No. 4 Stanford and rose as high to No. 5 in the College Squash Association rankings, their highest spot ever. Fung-A-Fat coached Karina Tyma to first team all-American honors, the program’s first, and Alina Bushma to a spot on the all-America second team.
Fung-A-Fat was a member of the women's squash team from 2013-17. She went 46-42 across her career including records of 13-11 as a freshman, 11-11 as a sophomore, 12-10 as a junior and 10-10 as a senior. The native of Georgetown, Guyana was the first Drexel female to win as least 10 matches in each of her four seasons and left Drexel with the most career wins (46) in the women’s program history.
In addition to her standout career at Drexel, she is currently the Guyanese No. 1, Caribbean No. 3 and has a highest world ranking of No. 141.
