Head Diving Coach Katryn Valladares is now in her fourth season as a Dragon.
Last season, David Sanchez was named the 2015 CAA Diver of the Year after earning his second-career gold medal in the three meter dive under Valladares' direction.
At the conclusion of her first season with Drexel, she was named Men's Diving Coach of the Year at the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Valladares led Drexel to two gold medals in the one and three meter dives. She also coached two divers through the NCAA Zone 'A' Diving Championships.
Valladares was named the head diving coach of Drexel’s Swimming and Diving program in August of 2012 and she began her work to strengthen the diving program and recruit high caliber student-athletes.
Valladares came to Drexel with 22 years of coaching experience ranging from novice to the Division I collegiate level. She spent three seasons as the head diving coach at Loyola University Maryland. Prior to Loyola, she was the Retriever Dive Club Instructor at University of Maryland Baltimore County from 2003-2007.
In 1996, Valladares graduated from McDaniel College with a bachelor’s degree in theater. She also has a minor in psychology including concentrations in child development and secondary education.
She resides in Cherry Hill, N.J. with her husband, Gui, and her children, Lucas and Gabriela.
