Before his time with Columbia, Walsh spent three seasons at Davidson as an assistant coach. During the 2021-22 season, the Wildcats had their most successful season since 2005, with three wrestlers being named to the RPI for the first time in program history. Walsh also spent one season with Rider from 2018-19.
Before making the leap to coaching, Walsh was a member of the Rider wrestling team for five seasons. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native was a two-time NCAA All-American at 157 lbs and 165 lbs, one of only two wrestlers to earn the honor twice in program history. He is the Broncs' all-time leader in wins by falls (39), breaking a nearly 35-year-old record (29).
Walsh earned his bachelor of arts degree in sociology and a master's in athletic leadership from Rider while earning four Academic All-American honors.
