Richmond, Va. - #Aleka Yiantsos# converted a penalty kick in the 43rd minute of play to give Drexel its lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Virginia Commonwealth (8-2-2, 4-0 CAA). The Dragons (3-7-1, 0-4 CAA) played tough for 90 minutes against the Rams, who have not lost a CAA match since 2004.

Leigh Anthony put Virginia Commonwealth on the board in the 15th minute off a corner kick served by Hayley Moorwood. Moorwood would score one of her own, just nine minutes later on a direct kick from 20 yards out to make it a 2-0 game.

Yiantsos carried the ball into the penalty box with less than three minutes remaining in the opening period. She drew a foul and stepped in to convert her own penalty kick to make the score 2-1 at intermission.

Pernilla Jansson scored the final goal of the match in the 77th minute when she took a pass from Stephanie Power, turned and deposited it to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.

#Kaitlin Bond# made eight saves in the match, four in each half, for the Dragons who were outshot 26-1. Lauren Hardison was in goal for the Rams on Yiantsos' goal.

The Dragons return to the friendly confines of Vidas Field to take on Towson next Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m.
