Teaneck, N.J. — Fairleigh Dickinson's Lora Lehr took a pass from Alex White and scored in the 97th minute of overtime to record the Knights' first goal of the season and to edge the Dragons, 1-0, at University Field.
Lehr came down the right sideline, took the pass from White and knocked the ball beyond Drexel goalkeeper, Kaitlin Bond (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield), 11:59 into overtime. The Dragons were at a disadvantage when junior Kimberly Kabernagel (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan) was given her second yellow card of the night at the 79:04 mark, and played with only 10 players for the remainder of the contest.
Drexel played a tough match with five Dragons recording shots on goal. Junior Aleka Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) tallied three, senior Sherriann Steadman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) and freshman Heatherrae Steadman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) each had two, while sophomore Lauren Steins (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) and senior Erin Williams (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) notched one each. Fairleigh Dickinson outshot the Dragons, 19-10, while Drexel's squad held the advantage in corner kick opportunities, 8-1.
Drexel's Bond kept the Dragons close by tallying 16 saves. For the Knights, Kyla Clark made eight saves in 77 minutes and was replaced by Rachel Derrico after a collision with Drexel's Kabernagel. Derrico recorded one save in the last 25 minutes of play.
The Dragons return to Philadelphia to play their next six matches at home. Drexel will face the Temple Owls on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Vidas Field.
