9/18/2006 9:07:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Philadelphia, Pa. — Drexel appeared to be in control of both overtime periods keeping the ball in its offensive side of the field, but could not get on the scoreboard. Neither team came up with a golden goal in the second overtime, ending the game in a 0-0 tie. Drexel is now 2-3-1 on the season, and Rider sits at 1-3-1.
Drexel freshman Carly Snyder (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) managed two shots that almost saw the back of the net in the second half. Snyder fired the ball at Rider's Kim Carter after a Drexel penalty kick was awarded when Carter grabbed the ball outside the goal box. Fellow rookie, Jaclyn Barrett (Philadelphia, Pa./Central), had another close shot with 7:23 left to play in regulation, and Snyder grabbed the ricochet and fired another shot at Carter. Senior Erin Williams (Lewes, Del./Cape Henlopen) and freshman Heatherrae Steadman (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) also recorded shots on goal for the Dragons.
Rider also created opportunities to score, taking 19 shots in the match while the Dragons tallied 14. Four of Rider's shots came from sophomore Michelle Matricardi. Rider edged Drexel 6-4 in corner kicks, and Drexel's Kaitlin Bond (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) recorded 11 saves to keep the Broncs scoreless. Carter finished with six saves for Rider.
The Dragons are in action again Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they return to Vidas Field to take on New Jersey Institute of Technology at 4:00 p.m.
